Intensified job demands in healthcare and their consequences for employee well‐being and patient satisfaction: A multilevel approach

Aims Intensified job demands (IJDs) and their effects on employee burnout, work engagement patient satisfaction were investigated across different units occupational groups in a healthcare setting. Design A multilevel study. Methods One thousand twenty-four employees responded to survey 2019 rated experiences of IJDs, burnout engagement. Nine hundred fifty-one patients with care received from staff. Results Work who shared more increased time pressure multitasking reported higher exhaustion. Shared perceptions planning performing one's autonomously correlated exhaustion lower at the work-unit level. Moreover, intensification was found be highest emergency among nurses, while job-related leadership services. Conclusion IJDs are risk well-being heterogeneous staff relate negatively customer-rated satisfaction. We that high time-pressure increase burnout—especially nurses working care.
